Our Story
Our Beginning
Ponsar Clothing was built on a simple truth — the banana plant gives more than just fruit. After harvest, the pseudostem is cut away and discarded. We saw something different: strong, natural fibre with properties no synthetic material can replicate.
Founded by our core team, Ponsar works at the intersection of traditional Indian craft and modern sustainable production. We work directly with Tamil Nadu farming families, turning agricultural residue into income, product, and purpose.
Core Founding Team
“Banana fibre is the future of sustainable luxury — the world just hadn’t been shown what it could become.”
“Fibre is not just a material — it is the thread that connects humanity to the earth.”
“Every weave carries the wisdom of hands that have worked with nature for centuries.”
“Sustainable textiles are not a trend. They are a return to what we always knew was right.”
“The finest fabrics are born where craft, conscience, and community meet.”
Our Values
Banana plants can be harvested 2–3 times a year, need less water than cotton, and require fewer chemicals to cultivate. Every production decision starts there.
We pay fair prices to 50+ farming families across Tamil Nadu, converting agricultural by-products into dignified livelihoods. We also encourage younger generations to engage with farming.
Banana yarn isn’t about perfection. Slight inconsistencies in thickness or texture are part of its nature. We accept and celebrate the fibre as it is — raw, real, and strong.
We openly share our process, sourcing, and technical details because informed partners make better decisions — and because we have nothing to hide.
